Mike Borland: In Memoriam
Mike Borland, a Director of The Elements World Theatre since 2011, passed away at the end of 2025. Mike was a weel-kent figure on the Edinburgh scene having previously been involved in a variety of cultural activities, both with the Polish community and also with Rickie Demarco’s European Arts Foundation.
Mike hosted one of The Elements first full scale productions on the Edinburgh Fringe – Three Weird Women – at his newly acquired Roxy Art House and frequently referred to how much he loved it. Latterly, as a board member, he acted as Secretary translating the Artistic Director’s sometimes lengthy enthusiasms into brief but actionable minutes. In addition, he was always ready to step in and provide practical assistance when needed; a memorable case being when supported by Ana Cabrera, another director, he catered the post performance reception for the inaugural viewing of Lockerbie: Lost Voices, a play commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Lockerbie bombing. As ever Mike was impeccably dressed for the part.
Mike was an enthusiast and a ‘doer’ and will be greatly missed.
