A life-affirming play about the UK’s biggest air disaster
Format
A one act play with 3 scenes.
Synopsis
The play gives voice to six hypothetical characters grappling with personal conflicts that unfold on Pan Am flight 03 on 21 December, 1988.
A mother and her stepdaughter engage in a power struggle; a retired couple disagree on priorities and a USA intelligence agent and a Scottish investigative journalist, face their fear of speaking truth to power. With humour, love and courage each couple discovers a surprising insight into their relationship, just before the plane explodes over Lockerbie.
In the last of three scenes, “A Chorus of Angels,” the six dead passengers join together in presiding over their own funeral. They bear witness to the investigation unfolding on the ground – the case and effort of not only those trying to uncover the truth but also those deliberately trying to hide and manipulate it.
The play ends with the dead praising the people of Lockerbie for transcending their personal grief and shock with courage, compassion and generosity to all those on the scene.
