Literally hundreds of people were involved in the events and performances organised and run under the aegis of the Elements World Theatre Company over the course of its life.
Many, possibly most participants, especially in the early days, were not ‘professional artists’ but members of communities – geographic or of affiliation – with whom the company worked. In varying degrees they contributed their interest, time and skills to co-create an event or piece of collective art. The context were the community events, ‘rights of passage’ and workshops run by Lee and one or more collaborators. In those days even her assistants were in the main ‘un-tutored’ artists like her effectively learning on the job.
As the focus moved from very short one-off, and sometimes spontaneous, events to more formalised productions the balance shifted towards more ‘professional’ artists – individuals who in the main lived from their work as actors, musicians and dancers. Because of the tendency of scripts to involve both music and the spoken word and to embody improvisation as a key element there was a predominance of actors who had strong musical skills.
Longer, more elaborate productions brought with them the need for musical scores, costumes and sets. Also publicity and design added other skills to the mix along with the need to record the final product in a variety of forms. Increasingly, Lee stepped back from being an active participant to being the Producer and on rare occasions the Director.
Last, but not least, there was the small group of Board Members of the Elements who over the years met not just to meet the legal requirements of Company and Charity legislation but more importantly provided a sounding board and support to Lee in her role as as the company’s Artistic Director.

Supportive Organisations
Finally, while most of the Elements income came from “donations and box office receipts”, recognition needs to be given to the various organisations that played an important supportive role in providing the company with opportunities to present productions or hold workshops either at their venues or under their aegis. Some of the organisations that played this key role are acknowledged via the inclusion of their logos.
